What’s New in SOLIDWORKS 2025?

SOLIDWORKS 2025 introduces a range of powerful enhancements designed to accelerate product development and improve user experience.

Design and modeling

SOLIDWORKS 2025 enhances design and modeling capabilities with features like a new selection accelerator for chamfers, allowing for faster edge selection, and improvements to part modeling that streamline the design process.

This update also includes the ability to copy assembly components with their advanced and mechanical mates, and improvements in creating tables in drawings, such as configuration tables and bill of materials enhancements.

Parts

Introduce automation in part design with new features like the selection accelerator for chamfers and the ability to delete items below the rollback bar in the FeatureManager design tree. Enhancements include the sheet metal bend notch for improved manufacturability and a new option for variable fillet chains, which allows for seamless radius integration.

Assemblies

Accelerate assembly design with the ability to copy components along with their mates, and interference checking for surface bodies. This update also introduces seamless transitions between Large Design Review (LDR) and Edit Part modes and interference detection in LDR mode to speed up design reviews.

Drawings

Speed up creation and ensure standardization. New features include multi-approval stamps for drawings and a BOM quantity override option for detailed cut lists. Surface finish symbols can now be created in compliance with ISO 21920 standards.

3D Dimensioning and tolerancing

Avoid the need for 2D drawings with more flexible 3D dimensioning and tolerancing. New capabilities include creating DimXpert dimensions from sketch dimensions and automatic draft dimensioning support.

Electrical and pipe routing

Improved features in electrical and pipe routing include improved harness board drawings, the ability to assign slack percentages for wire/cable lengths, and initial placement of electrical components in subassemblies. CircuitWorks is now available for all SOLIDWORKS roles, enhancing ECAD-MCAD collaboration.

ECAD – MCAD collaboration

Collaboration between ECAD and MCAD is streamlined with improvements in CircuitWorks, including a new user interface and the ability to accept PCB outline changes. The update supports copper trace data processing, enabling accurate material stackups in PCBs.

Rendering

Rendering capabilities are improved with photorealistic rendering automation using SOLIDWORKS Visualize and real-time interactive ray tracing advancements. The update supports exporting DSPBR appearance parameters in glTF file formats for consistent 3D asset generation across devices.

Import/Export

Import/export enhancements include the ability to export drawing views as blocks for downstream use and improved IFC output clarity. The update also supports importing 3MF files with lattice structures, offering detailed or simplified geometry representation options.

Collaboration and data management

Enhance collaboration and data management with real-time notifications about design changes and improved connectivity with industry peers through the 3DSwym platform. Users can leverage existing SOLIDWORKS PDM with 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for seamless data management.

Draftsight PDM

Streamline drafting workflows with improved communication and data efficiency. SOLIDWORKS PDM enhancements improve accessibility and revision management,

Simulation

Enhance performance and accuracy with new connectors and improved meshing capabilities. Electrical design is simplified with faster 3D harness routing and enhanced drawing functionality.

Silhouette mode for defeature command

Enhance the ability to simplify models by focusing on the silhouette of parts, which is useful for sharing designs without revealing proprietary details.

Interference detection for large design review

Improve the efficiency of detecting interferences in large assemblies, streamlining the design review process.

Bend notch feature for sheet metal

New capabilities for creating more precise sheet metal designs, enhancing manufacturability.

User interface improvements

UI refinements across the latest SOLIDWORKS release are designed to reduce clicks and streamline day-to-day design tasks, making SOLIDWORKS 2025 more intuitive and efficient.

Z-up orientation templates

Users can now set their default template to either a Y-axis-up or Z-axis-up orientation, accommodating different preferences for coordinate system orientations in parts and assemblies.

Breadcrumbs selection in LDR (large design review) mode

This feature allows users to take advantage of breadcrumbs when opening a model in LDR mode, speeding up the editing process by making the hierarchy of selections clearer.

AI Command prediction

This new technology preview feature uses AI to predict the next command, improving productivity and design quality by anticipating user actions.

SpeedPak configuration

The ability to create a SpeedPak configuration at the top level of an assembly without modifying subassemblies allows for faster and more flexible simplification of assemblies.

Faster assembly mass property calculations

SOLIDWORKS now accelerates the calculation of mass properties for assemblies by using previously calculated values for parts and bodies, enhancing overall performance.
