The course provides a comprehensive introduction into the application and interpretation of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing applied to engineering components.

The course is aligned to the ASME Y14.5 and BS888 (ISO) standards.

This course covers the following content:

• The purpose of GD&T; why its application is beneficial to both design and manufacture
• The limitations of using just size and location to specify geometrical deviation.
• Affective application and interpretation of GD&T to engineering components.
• The three main categories of geometrical deviation; Form, Orientation and Location.
• The 14 types of geometrical deviation.
• The concept of Datum Reference Frames and Datum Simulation.
• Appreciation of the inspection methods used by metrology.
• Specification and interpretation the flexibility afforded to manufacture by using the MMC and LMC modifiers.
• Appropriate specification and interpretation of maximum allowable deviation of geometrical characteristics of features.

Prerequisites:

Whilst no prior knowledge is required, some familiarity with part drawings and general manufacturing processes would be beneficial.
